Virtual School Games

Summer 2020

 

The Hertfordshire School Games summer finals had to be cancelled due to the current situation but the Hertfordshire School Games Organisers have been working hard to bring to you the ‘Virtual’ Hertfordshire School Games instead.

This is an exciting programme of sport competition running throughout the remainder of the summer term, giving children the chance to represent their school team, alongside their friends and family, to be crowned Hertfordshire champions!

Sports Day

 

Monday 6th July - Wednesday 15th July

All year groups are encouraged to take part in the activities below as a personal challenge or as an intra-school activity - see below for more details. 

 

  • Competition open to KS1 (Year 1 & 2), Lower KS2 (Year 3 & 4) and Upper KS2 (Year 5 & 6)

  • The top 4 scores from each year combine to make a school team of 8 

  • Results from the Lower and Upper KS2 competition go on to 'County Final'

Tennis and Cricket

 

Monday 22nd June - Friday 3rd July

1. Tennis 'Racket Tap' Competition

  • How many times can you hit the ball with the racket in 2 minutes

  • Competition open to KS1 (Year 1 & 2), Lower KS2 (Year 3 & 4) and Upper KS2 (Year 5 & 6)

  • The top 4 scores from each year combine to make a school team of 8 

  • Results from the Lower KS2 competition go on to 'County Final'

2. Cricket 'Paper Smash' Competition

  • How many points can you score in 2 minutes by throwing a ball at the targets 

  • Competition open to Lower KS2 (Year 3 & 4), Upper KS2 (Year 5 & 6) and KS3 (Year 7 - 9)

  • The top 4 scores from each year group are combined to make a school team 

  • Results from the Upper KS2 and KS3 competitions go on to 'County Final'

3. Tennis 'Target Serve' Competition 

  • How many times can you successfully underarm serve a ball into a bucket in 2 minutes

  • Competition for KS3 (Year 7 - 9)

  • The top 4 from each year are combined to make a school team of 12

  • Results from the KS3 competition go on to 'County Final'

Pentathlon

Monday 8th June - Friday 19th June 

The pentathlon is made up of 5 activities:

  • Shuttle Runs

  • Standing Long Jump

  • Vertical Jump

  • Speed Bounce

  • Target Throw

Each card explains the activity and provides ideas to differentiate the activity to ensure all pupils are able to take part. 

Pupils can complete the activities at any time - either at home or at school. Schools can collate all the results using the results spreadsheet, which will automatically allocate points and add up the scores.

Schools can submit the top 4 scores from each year to NHSSP as part of the virtual competition.

Results will be split as follows;

  • Lower KS2 - Year 3 & 4 (top 4 from each year = team of 8)

  • Upper KS2 - Year 5 & 6 (top 4 from each year = team of 8)

  • KS3 - Year 7 - 9 (top 4 from each year = team of 12)
